A Swiss customer asked us to build a swimming pond by their holiday home in the peaceful, picturesque Marche hills.
The customer’s main requirements were:
– A system that is simple and inexpensive to maintain because the house is not occupied all year round
– The design had to blend in seamlessly with the landscape in order to comply with the numerous building restrictions imposed by the local architectural and artistic heritage department
– Preserve the existing layout of the views looking towards the sea
– Have an automatic system for collecting the leaves that fall from the tall neighbouring poplar trees in the autumn
In order to cater to these needs, we built a basin without any concrete parts. We carefully shaped the clayey ground on site and added the finishing touches by hand, creating perfectly smooth walls.
A large L-shaped wooden decking area provides an ideal place to sunbathe and is now dotted with sun loungers.
The leaves are collected by a large skimmer that separates the swimming area from the filter section, with a granite walkway on it.
The side is paved with large grey Luserna stepping stones with colourful perennial grasses planted between them.
The lawn around the pond was reshaped to direct the flow of rainwater down the hill properly.
In the winter of 2011, more than 2 metres of snow fell on the garden without causing any damage. The water circulation system carried on working without any issues and kept the surface free of ice.
Since the swimming pond was built, the customers and their family and friends spend a lot more time at the holiday home.
