Learning to swim in a pond

Type:
Swimming pond
Zone:
Province of Bergamo
Year:
2015

On a hill near the Italian city of Bergamo, a young couple with two children were planning to renovate a large, unused area on the ground floor of their house. The design featured a large window looking out into the garden, which provided sweeping views of the surrounding area.

Therefore, our customers decided to make their garden more attractive by redesigning it and adding a swimming pond.

Once we had removed the central lawn and the shrubs running around the outside of the old, steeply sloping garden, we built a wall using railway sleepers and filled up the area inside with earth so that we had a perfectly flat surface, then started digging out the shape of the swimming pool area and the filter section.

Two big Luserna stone steps provide easy access to the swimming pond, which has a play area with a depth of 1.10 m and an area near the diving board that reaches a depth of 2.5 m.

Outside the window is a large area of ipe wood decking with plenty of room for a garden lounge set and some sun loungers.

The filter area is complemented by seasonal Iris, Pontederia and Hibiscus militaris blooms, thus ensuring that there are flowers and colours to be enjoyed all year round.

Adorning the lawn around the swimming pond are flower beds containing olive trees and Iceberg white roses, with Karmina Geraniums around the base.

A month after work on it was completed, a number of members of the family who did not know how to swim had lessons in the swimming pond. Therefore, it is fair to say that fun and safety are among the benefits that it has offered.

The customers can now look out of the large windows and see the light reflecting off the surface of the swimming pond as they admire sweeping views that they did not even know they had.
