A swimming pond in the woods

Interview with Margherita
Type:
Swimming pond
Zone:
Province of Varese - Ticino Park
Year:
2016

I liked the idea of something natural because I live in the woods, so I didn’t want a pool that looked artificial and had to be cleaned using chemical products. On top of that, there are building restrictions in the area where I live and the Ticino Park board would never have let me build a traditional swimming pool.

First and foremost, the natural sensations that I get from this little piece of living water.

I’m really fond of the little creatures such as frogs, tadpoles and even water snakes. They don’t bother me at all.

One positive aspect is the extremely clean, clear water. I like it when I get out and my skin feels free, without any chemical products on it.

It’s wonderful to have plants with colourful flowers all around you. They wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the swimming pond: there would just be undergrowth.

Another thing is that it fits in extremely well in my garden. Someone even came here and asked me about it because it looks so natural they thought it had always been here.

I didn’t expect to be able to use it for such an extended period. This year we started in March and in previous years we’ve carried on using it until October.

One notable thing about it is that it requires care and maintenance, especially when there are sudden changes in temperature that lead to algae growing quickly, when you prune plants that have stopped flowering, and when the leaves fall.

People who love the essence of nature. For example, I’m vegetarian and I’d recommend it to all those who feel a real sense of respect for animals and the natural world. In addition, people who like things to be as unadulterated as possible and appreciate nature as it is, without destroying it.

Obviously I’d also recommend swimming ponds to people who have the space and would like a chlorine-free pool.

It’s had a big impact. The maintenance side of things takes up a lot of my time, but I now finally have somewhere to swim and sunbathe.

This year my grandchildren spent five months here during the lockdown and they were delighted to be able to use the swimming pond.

We had the swimming pond built in May 2016. I couldn’t be happier with it and I think it’s even increased the value of my home.

It’s a marvellous experience: like swimming in rivers and lakes. I love fresh water and I actually prefer it to swimming in the sea. I don’t swim in traditional pools at all.

My grandchildren love playing in it and they’re always diving around and going underwater. I like slipping in and enjoying the relaxing sensation of being at one with nature in the cool water.

I’ve been running a B&B for a few years and my foreign guests (from Austria, Switzerland and France) have all fallen in love with the swimming pond. They think it’s amazing and always compliment me on it.

Why did you choose a swimming pond?

Has your swimming pond had an impact on your everdyday life? If so, how?

It’s had a big impact. The maintenance side of things takes up a lot of my time, but I now finally have somewhere to swim and sunbathe.

How long have you had a swimming pond and are you still happy with the choice you made?

We had the swimming pond built in May 2016. I couldn’t be happier with it and I think it’s even increased the value of my home.

What does it feel like to take a dip in a swimming pond?

It’s a marvellous experience: like swimming in rivers and lakes. I love fresh water and I actually prefer it to swimming in the sea. I don’t swim in traditional pools at all.
