I discovered natural swimming pools in Germany in 2005, because I had a partner who had one. When I tried it out, I really loved the feeling.
When I started building my house, I opted for a natural swimming pool. It was partly to stand out from everyone else because there are lots of traditional pools around here, but I’m the only one with a natural swimming pool.
One thing that I like about it is there’s absolutely no chlorine.
Another important factor is that – even though it has technical features – it blends in with its surroundings and there’s greenery everywhere you look when you take a dip.
I was surprised by how quickly the plants developed in the water in the warm weather.
When we have friends over for lunch, our favourite game is to put two little football goals at the ends of the pool, then get in and have a whale of a time playing around.
I’ve got a natural swimming pool so it doesn’t blend in with the natural environment quite so much as a swimming pond would, but it means I can play around like this.
I’d recommend a natural swimming pool to everyone who has time to take care of it, will enjoy what it has to offer both in and out of the water, and will find even cleaning it a pleasant pastime.
I work in Milan so I don’t usually get to spend much time enjoying it, but this year the lockdown meant that it really made a difference. It was absolutely delightful to take a break at lunchtime and dive into the pool.
The very idea of taking a dip three times a day is simply amazing. Since we’ve had the pool, I’ve almost completely stopped going to the lake with my wife.
The pool’s had a positive and relaxing impact and it also means that I get a little exercise, which wouldn’t be the case if we didn’t have it.
Everyone in the family makes the most of it, including my parents and my daughter, who sometimes spend the whole afternoon here.
I’ve had this natural swimming pool since 2009. We’ve had to deal with some problems with frogs, but if I could go back I’d do it all again.
It’s fair to say that I also wanted to stand out from the crowd, because there are lots of people around here with traditional pools but I think I’m the only one with a natural swimming pool.
In physical terms, it’s a pleasant, neutral, clean and uncontaminated feeling. I really can’t stand chlorine and I always have to wear goggles in traditional pools, even if I’m only in the water for a few minutes.
My favourite time for a dip is at midday, when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky. That’s when the colours are at their best and the reflections from the green bottom are spectacular.
In the summer, it’s nice to have a swim at eight or nine o’clock in the evening. After I’ve endured two hours on a boiling hot train, it’s a revitalizing experience.
Although they eventually learn to love it, guests tend to be wary about getting into a pool like this at first, probably because they’re used to the light blue look of traditional pools.
Once they’ve tried it, they really enjoy being able to stay in the water without their eyes getting irritated. Children have a great time.
